Greetings from the Critique Club

Judging from the votes this was ok image. I think it needed a setting to help it really stand out. The perspective is unique but unfortunately in this case it doesn't make the image stand out. This chair in the right setting could really work well (empty ware house or by the back of an old building comes to mind). As a subject for this challenge, this chair has a lot of potential.

Technically: Focus is ok. It might have needed a bit more depth of field. There's a couple of spots that are a bit hot and the shadows fall of strangely for some reason. (almost like dodging and burning was used with a heavy hand?)

Composition: Really not much to say here. The chair is plunked down in the middle of a square frame. Central composition and square framing work well if you want to depict symmetry and balance. With this type of subject you'd want to go for something more dynamic I think.

Hello again Todd, greetings from the Critique Club!

First of all, I hope you weren't too close to that burner :)

For your shot:

Composition
You've chosen to do an abstract shot. Having said this, please remember that not many people will recognize an electric hob when they see one. It was too cryptic for the viewers to relate to the subject hot.
Still, as abstract goes, the tilt does make it more interesting, and the crop is something of a macro puzzle thing. The white spots (I think it was the water) do appear like dust or flour, so I think it worked against you.

Lighting
Despite the macro ring and the snoot, you got some uneven lighting. The right part has light, but the top and left are a bit dark.

Processing
Nothing to be said here, good contrast and colours, the picture is sharp all around.

Overall
I think you couldn't pass the message to the voters / viewers as to what they were seeing.
It was an obscure perspective, that whilst being hot, didn't "compute" in the minds of the people.

Take care,
Joao

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

What a super image. Great lighting, clarity, mood-setting; all the good things that make up a superior picture.

Members of the Critique Club are supposed to look at an image and try to tell the maker 'how to make it better.' Not in this case. I think the image is just fine as it is, and actually in this tough competition, your score is at least a decent one.

About the only thing I can do is encourage you to keep shooting, keep experimenting and know that there are many DPCers who really do like your work.

I look forward to seeing more of it.

Alice
