Full Moon Dashby kcarter07Comment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Very interesting from a technical and artistic perspective. Is this a Lensbaby shot?? So rare to see them in colour and it works really well. So many good parts to this image, the detailed, contrasty bricks, the golden light through the arch - such a range it almost loos HDR. The really interesting thing about this image is its ambiguity as to the time of day - after all that could be the sun or the moon - I suspect the moon because of the darkness on the far right of the image.
Critical stuff: You know that I'm going to moan about the verticals... I just don't think you can have verticals this close to it without it being perfect... and it isn;t.
Overall: An intriguing picture which brings something a little different. |

The Stormby kcarter07Comment by JulietNN: Hi from the Critique Club,
You asked for your shot to have a comment from a member of the Critique Club.
This is a wonderfully clever shot. This could be so many different things. When I first looked at it I thought it was a the sea, a jut of land and then sky.
I think that there is some things that you could do in post processing. Unsharp mask just to bring out some details. Shadow and highlight, again for details. Then it is time to play around with the hue and saturations, selective colours. A lot of details could be brought out with just a few minor tweaks.
The more I look and study this shot the more I like it , well done

The Healing Centrifugeby kcarter07Comment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial impression: Oh yeah, I've see those around here too, nice capture.
Technical: Composition plays safe in that it is very centred. Light and dof good. Colours are vibrant and attractive. I agree that a different crop may have helped give more of an abstract feel to shot.
Artistic: I like the near-zoomblur effect here to the heart of the pistil. Like the green leaf(?) in top left corner that helps break up the centredness and draws the eye away a little.
Overall: Not the most exciting shot in the challenge, it is quite apparent what it is. But your treatment of it makes it more interesting.
Feel free to PM me with any questions,
Susan |

The Stormby kcarter07Comment by ChadH: Something to give these awesome clouds reference could have added to this picture and the intensity of The Storm. Without a reference it is quite abstract. |
