Hi Julie, welcome to DPC and your first challenge entry :)

First thoughts
A lovely simple image

After some time with the image
The trouble with challenge voting is that there are so many images and often we don't give them the time they sometimes need. Your image is a good example of the value of taking time - there seems so little there and yet there is so much to look at. The composition of this image is excellent, ok maybe a slight loss of focus, but hey, you were scared, I like to think maybe it was you, shaking with fright- see,the picture's starting to tell it's story ;)
It's coming towards the end of the day, the spider is catching the last of the sun's rays and his work is not yet finished. Work or die little spider....

Overall
This was a brave and brilliant entry for your first challenge. An image doesn't have to be technically perfect to be fantastic. A low score doesn't mean it wasn't a good picture. Keep taking pictures, I look forward to seeing more from you .

there may be some technical issues with this but artistically it is a triumph. Don't be put off by the relatively low score. If you stick around you'll gradually discover what makes this community tick and you will definitely develop a thick skin as well as your photography skills!

The spider seems slightly out of focus. I think a tighter crop would've helped too.
