*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*

An interesting macro that would meet the challenge with some adjustment.

Flowers can actually be quite complex in their structure and not ideally suited to the theme of simplicity. However, with your shallow DOF you have managed to reduce that complexity to just the stamens against a colourful backdrop. The only thing that spoils that effect is the sharply focused edge of the petal on the right hand edge of the frame, this most definitely needs cropping out especially in view of the challenge theme, it adds a complex and distracting element that spoils the overall effect.

I really like the transition between the background colours and the way the stamens softly appear from its depths it works really well. I sort of wish there was more DOF to get the stamen heads better defined but that would be at the expense of that gorgeous backdrop which works so well as it is it would be a shame to alter it. I love the curves and the flowing feel of the stamens I think we have to leave it as it is.

Sorry you didn't get any comments during the challenge, I hope this makes up for it, Sid.

I like how you can almost see his facial expression in the reflection.

Hello from the Critique Club...

This is an interesting flower, not one that I recognise..

It is just about sharp enough in the right places to work, although it might have benefited from a little more DOF.

It didn't score well in this challenge and although it didn't pick up any DNMC comments I'm sure the low voters
had this in mind when scoring... i.e. Unless it screams "Park" it will suffer in the votes.

I hope the challenge encouraged you to go out into your local park and look for shots with your camera... which is one
of the aims of the community..

Chris

The "coming right at you" stance is cool. But the brown reflection and blurred piece in the front corners really distract.

HI from the C Club,

You asked for an in depth comment on your shot.

This is a really pretty picture and I like the fact that you have several pink shades going on in the background.

Now to the nitty gritty, I am afraid you shot is really out of focus. When eyeing up a subject, find one that you really like then you can move your little adjuster to just focus on that and the rest of it will be blurry, or you can have the whole lot in in focus.

Your ISO is fairly high too in this shot, try turning it down to 100 when taking shots outside as they will not get any grain, which I can see in your whites. A tripod could help with camera shake and make your shots extra sharp and clean.

In post processing, there is not a lot that you could have done with this shot, a little more contrast would ha e give you more depth of feeling to this shot.

Keep trying, you have an eye for it.

I appreciate this idea of the subject of pink as background.

An interesting composition. However, the pink appears to be only a background color and the white petals on the left and right sides draw my attention too much for this to be an effective composition for me.

If you use Photoshop check out the tutorial on preparing a photograph for DPChallenge. If you use something else you can probably get some hints from it that will help you.
