The Art of Touchdown

Comment:
After reviewing the play, the receiver was placed in an excellent diagonal line with the defender, and the composition is valid. The receiver makes a good football move, but gets somewhat lost in the busy background which the still-too-deep depth of field can not make go away. The ruling on the image stands, touchdown and 7 points.

Very good composition and framing; HDR is a bit on the heavy side.

Yes, I see it's IR :) Great sky, IR works exceptionally well for the tree, the white foreground doesn't really do it for me...

Hey - that's a pretty cool macro shot. I like your composition, with two more flowers in the upper corners.

I like the lighting and the composition, exposure is spot-on too with both light and shadow nicely detailed. Feels a bit over-saturated.

You name your image "simply red" but it's the black and white background with the unusual gradient that makes it for me.

The out-of-focus effect is so strong that it looks to me like it's been enhanced in photoshop and it's not just bokeh. I would suggest to zoom more on the subject droplet, and go with a less tall aspect ratio.

Back for a comment: you were out to get a particular image and you nailed it 100%. Yes, it was never going to do well with the voters, but I have laughed out loud once I "got it" which to me is more important. Great "out-of-the-box" shot.

Coming back for a comment - very good shot. I think it meets the challenge very well, but not in a very obvious way. It's more of who the subject is as a person (which I think your pic captures well) than what the subject is doing. I'm guessing the title cost you at least 0.5 in the score - it's not a very straightforward image but you chose to confuse quick voters even more with the title. Also, nothing is really vertical in the image, everything is falling away at some different angle. You got an 8 from me.

Something about this I really like. Maybe the centered composition? Maybe the blurred hand? Maybe the lighting with a dark stripe right down the middle? Probably all: non-conventional, which is what the street is about. My choice for yellow ribbon.
