Pride of Baltimore II Returns to Harbor After 9 Months at Seaby admart01Comment: This is another one I'd call an almost. The subject is interesting, it looks like something that could be in the local papers, but it lacks a bit technically. The sign and the steam in the BG are a bit too prominent, taking away from the main subject. The ship could use a bit better focus - perhaps you were shooting from very far away? I'd also prefer (though you may not have been able to do anything about it) that the fireboat was not in the frame at all. |

Homelessness on Rise Among Womenby aberrationComment: This one to me is an "almost". It's a poignant subject and looks like something we'd see in an article in the paper or a magazine.
However, it seems to lack a little focus and the washed out colors don't do it for me. Don't know if the colors were done that way on purpose, but they aren't my fave.
(at first I thought the cup and taped up bottle over her shoulder were lenses and I was going to ding you for setting up the shot and not using very good props!! ;-) ) |

Error Avertedby SandmanComment: Good capture of the action and good balance of technically nice shot w/ journalistic quality.
(p.s. - hey #32, you're supposed to keep your eyes on the BALL!) |

Elegant Bride Magazineby ibkcComment: Pretty good. I might prefer to see the BG done differently. As is, the colors and lines of the BG take away a little bit from the subject. Perhaps if the DOF made the BG out of focus it wouldn't be so noticeable.
(Looks like she needs some ironing, but that's not part of my comments on the shot for the challenge) |

Tienda Hoby GeneralEComment: Hmmm, I'm not really sure what this one is about. It doesn't appear real strong technically (out of focus, no real subject, etc) and it doesn't look journalistic. For me, if it is photojournalism, it needs to be fairly clear in the shot what the accompanying text would be talking about. This one is a couple of guys on a street with video equipment, no idea why they are there or what the point is. |

Walking Aroundby Carpe DiemComment: Hmmm, this one just doesn't do it for me as a great shot or journalistic.
To me, it lacks focus and seems noisy. Maybe the soft focus was on purpose, but if so, I'd want to see it softer. It either would need to be very in focus or more out of focus to be more interesting. As it is, it is between the 2. It could be cropped tighter too as the bottom part seems irrelevant.
Those things would maybe make it a better photo, but I still think it would lack any journalistic qualities. |

TWENTY THOUSAND CAME AND RANby tjmuellerComment: Looks like something I'd see in a magazine article for "promoting a healthy lifestyle". I like the journalism angle to this one. To me though, it looks a little "overcooked" in PP. |

(TIME Cover) "America's Fading Glory"by SJCarterComment: Beautiful image, I could see it on a magazine cover very easily. This one to me has the balance I am looking for of "great photo" with "looks journalistic". The only thing I might like better is either a little more detail on the right side or perhaps some of the right side cropped off. As it is, there's nothing there, just a 95% black void. |

Jake Smith steals home to score the winning runby dahkotaComment: Great action moment. The only thing better would've been the look on everyone's faces as they react to the call. I think it was in the sports shooting tutorial where it was mentioned that great sports shots don't always show the action of the play, but sometimes the reactions to it.
I wish there wasn't so much dust in the foreground, but I bet you couldn't do anything about that. |
