What did you say?by arsenalComment: critque club--
you did an excellent job at capturing a kitten, they seem to be always be hyper when i try to shoot mine. anyway the image is too saturated your whites have NO detail what so ever and in the photography world you must always try to expose your whites to keep detail. i suggest you meter your whites next time...although i'm not sure how your camera (konica-minolta) works. I think a reason it looks as blown out as it does is because you used the on camera flash...thats a big no-no, if the flash isnt doing a good job as i am assuming try bringing your subject into a better lit area.
like everyone on here below me says that you might have gone overboard with the sharpness..I agree with them. dont try to make your picture look soo unnatrual although it may be your style you just went a little over on this picture.
I think cropping it a different way would have also helped, I dont know how the rest of the picture is but maybe cropping in on just the kittens face and leaving the empty space to the left of the kitten would help a little. |

Reflection of an Aging Soulby pa_cuthbertComment: critque club**
the shot is not very eye catching, no pun intended ;)
anyway, first things first. when trying to shoot a picture espically with a P&S always avoid shooting directly in light the light source is very distracting..i suggest moving your subject over to completly cover up the light source so it creates what I love as a rim of light over the edge. its a beautiful effect!
now onto the main subject.
the entire image is very soft, that means its not sharp like it needs to but since it is a p&s, not much you had to work with..although i love your idea in this picture it lacks the reflection needed to earn you a higher spot in this category. like i said, the lighting would have also helped out dramatically.
your title is very creative, perhaps you should help me name my pictures for future contests! |

Bel Air Reflectionzby alzartComment: critque club**
now this is the type of reflection i wanted, a black car does wonders for acting like a mirror the only problem i see is that the chrome is over exposed on some parts and tends to show blown out, but thats ok since the rest of the picture is perfect.
I have a problem with one thing though, i dont know which of the two reflections you intended to be your favorite for the shot. if i were you i'd capture just one of the reflections and crop to fit that, exposing just a bit of the other. like for example use the windows reflection and show just up to the door handle for the crop. it would add alot more to the picture or vice versa. crop out some of the window and leave the entire panel, or maybe focusing on just the bel-air logo and leaving the background as the reflection...who knows i'm just trying to see what could be helpful here lol. I just think two main subjects can sometimes be a tad distracting.
the colors are very nice, i love the effect of the sky in the body panel but theres a dark line running thru part of it that seems to take away from that beauty. your camera did a good job being on auto and there isnt much you can do to change your settings so for what its worth this shot is very nice, congrats. |

Last Rose 2005by pdxgrafixComment: critque club--
I like how you happend to have the red not over saturated...that seems to be my problem when i shoot a red rose. the only problem with this shot is too played out if you know what I mean. everyone has a shot of roses, in order to compete in contests like these you must stand out. although the main subject (the rose) is very nicely exposed and the shadows are soft, the light emitted from the trees causes a slight distraction thats not necessary. this picture needs alot more "bam" as emeril would say ;) |

Boathouseby rr_meyerComment: critque club**
I dont know about this one... it has a snap shot feel like someone has mentioned. I dont like how the sky is very very white (aka blown out)...its distracting and the boats around the boathouse have random colors which distract even more!
although the reflection is there and is captured...it does not seem to be the main subject matter which in this contest it should have been.
I suggest you also try to have the shot level..it lookes to lean like the tower of piza
what i suggest if you wanted to really score high on this was to zoom in on the reflection and only allow the bottom half of the boathouse to be shown..although that is just my style and my not seem to be of interest to you it would have helped reduce the distractions of the randomness around the boathouse.
overall its a nice shot to have for your family to enjoy of what looks to be such a beautiful day enjoyed by your family! and I thank you for sharing your lovely experience with us! |

Reflections on the Moon and the Riverby HVGB_photosComment: critque club**
very dramatic!
perhaps a slowing the shutter a bit more would help this shot alot. I like how you tried to make the image grainy but the ISO used for this shot is tooo high, 800 is recommended to be used as the most for grainy effects since 1600 is basically way too much.
the exposure of the moon is a little too much as well imo, the over all feel represents an erie emotion but thats what i like about it! your eye tend to wander alot in this picture as well..the rule of thirds is a nice thing to follow, perhaps cropping it in a different way would have helped...try playing with the levels and curves next time to see what shadows stand out since the darkness is over powering.
the clouds are my favorite piece of this shot as well as the reflection on the lake but because its so dark it tends to lose its competive edge over all. |

Screeningby boguloComment: Critque club**
Wow, this shot is gorgeous!
I love it, not much about it to critque on but I have to lol
first of I love the use of lines in this shot, they flow very nicely, although they lead into a very distracting bright light at the end which i believe should have been cropped out...if that was out of the question though I suggest perhaps changing the angle a bit.
I also would have loved this photo a bit more if you tried to have the actual reflection in focus...you currently have the end of the line in focus and like i've stated its pretty much a space of white light which is very distracting.
the main reason i love this photo is because the reflection is very dramatic. the tone of colors is gorgeous and the position the two subjects are in make this photo even more wonderful.
over all its a nice picture..perhaps cropping in closer would have helped and I love the grainy feel to it! |

Curvatureby amjltComment: critque club**
my eye is instantly drawn to the brighness of the bulb which leads to my concern about what is the main subject in this photo? the picture isnt very sharp as well perhaps because the lens is focused entirely on the bulb and not the red thing.
background-
the black background makes the subject stand out very much but overall it makes the picture pretty boring
foreground-
I love the use of lines in this but then agian I am confused as to what the main subject is in the picture...perhaps if the red object was a bit more exposed it would help with the lines drawn from the bulb and the red object. the macro on your lens isnt focused on both subjects either, i appologize if your main subject was the bright bulb.
over all- this picture is very interesting I like the use of colors green black and red but its mysterious and does not follow the challenge it was submitted in imo. |
