Up Aboveby beautyqn25Comment: From the Critique Club:
Over all image impact is good. You have good tonal range, from D-Max (that is the blacks in the photo) to D-Min (that is the whites in the photo). The point of focus is on the right eye, (of the subject) with the left eye (of the subject) slightly soft, this is a good use of DOF.
When doing a B&W portrait it is important to remember you will need to be more aware of contrast. With color the flesh tones will add to the depth and range of your photo. B&W however has only shades of gray. This means you need to use the light and dark arise of the image to show depth and texture.
To improve this image I would suggest a little more contrast, not much. From the right side of the face to the left side (of the subject) could be a bit more contrast. At the right bottom edge of the photo is a, hand or something; this creates an uneasy element to the photo. This could be moved before shooting, if not possible then darkened in post processing.
Over all a very well done portrait. Keep up the good work.
