I can't believe you did not place higher! Don't get me wrong 27th is great, but the picture deserved to be in the top 10. I was hoping you would get a ribbon. Not only is you composition better then many that place higher, but you lighting is much, much better.

Critique Club
Your concept for this photo is unclear to me and is there for hard for me to place it in the surreal challenge. But also remeber that I can't read your mind so it could very well be surreal to you. I will only critique from a photographic stand point and not about your concept. I think that your lighting could be improved, maybe a stronger side light and more shadow. I prefer more dramatic light 80% of the time. I like that it is not centered from top to bottom, but the pawns feel a little tight at the top. I don't mind the softness of the shot, from noise reduction I am assuming. I think you should even play around with making a little softer, maybe add some noise??? Also the tones are so beautiful I would have liked to see it without. Please remember that these are all suggestions and the best way to figure out what you like best is to make changes and compare, sometimes it just helps to have another set of eyes to help with changes. In the end you need to make your photo what you want it to be and if you love it, don't worry about what anyone else has to say. Overall it is intersting, but please let me know what your concept was I am very interested.

This is done better than most of the still lifes posted, but I would have liked to see a little more of the scene and a more perfect flower (this is just me being picky, but also trying to help you improve) Your lighting is good, I get the feel of morining light coming in the bath window. I would also like to see a little more depth of field. Again better than most of the table top shots. (7)

Nice shot but you composition is too centered. Try cropping just below the green rock you don't need all of the forground. It will make your photo much more interesting and the seal will be more prominent.

Food is really hard to photograph well. Your lighting needs some depth, it is to straight on. An it does not look appealing, the goal with food is to make people want to eat it.
