Focus & Unfocus

Wow, stunning clarity in the immediate foreground. Great color, interesting detail and nice layout. The image might have captured "opposite" more concisely had the flower in the mid-ground not been present. Rather than two layers (figure and ground / focus and unfocused), I cannot help but see three layers -- that right-most flower. So, ultimately, I think you captured a gradient of focus and not two stark opposites.

Nice work. Very interesting play on up-side-down vs. right-side-up - it works in several ways (horizontally and vertically). Focus and clarity are good. All of the individual parts seem great, but as a whole the image lacks some umph. (Sorry - I cannot find the right word.)

Great clarity and detail. Black & white contrast well (obviously). But, what I really like is how your board and the underlying wood table share the same yellow hue - which allows both to coexist in the background. Nice work.

Interesting instance of Yin Yang, so I think you captured an "opposite." Framed well, good figure/ground relationship, but that thing in the background (UL corner) is a bit distracting. Also, the black dog's head lacks detail and seems unclear - probably because it was moving.

Well done - except for the glare cast by the flame (right side). Fire and ice are true opposites.

Cool - I like the framing, your choice of contrasting hues and the opposing orientation of the two glasses (facing away from each other). All of your elements seem to capture the "opposite" concept.

Okay idea - but I think you've got uncut grass vs. cut grass. Tonal contrast between the two is weak and the framing is off. Whatever the "red" things are in the background - they serve to distract the reader - especially because red and green are opposite hues.

Cute. Had your background been more neutral relative to the "white" mouse, then I would have rated this higher. As it is, the greatest contrast in brightness values is between the black mouse and the background.

Nice work. Your background works very well to divide the image into two parts: one part frames the living flower (left) and the other frames the dying flower (right). I think all of your visual cues are working together here - and everything, including your title, captures the "opposite" concept.

Good use of space - foreground/background, head/tail are working together. Had the "head" penny been completely in focus (and the tail not), then I would have rated this higher. Heads and tails are truly opposites.
