lookup.jpgby MAKComment: I do like this. A dramatic/moody sky with plenty of depth and 'movement' in those clouds. A sharp image of the pylon and power lines - forming an interesting and quite intricate syllouette (sp?). I'd have scored this probably around 7 or 8. Can't say how it might be improved, other than maybe composing/cropping so that the pylon is slightly more to the left? |

Blood IS thicker than waterby TroutbearComment: I really think the black border sets this photo off nicely. Probably would not have scored it quite so high without it. The photo appeals to me 'artistically'. The drop of water at the top captures my eye which then leads down to what appears to be its shadow and on down to the dark area where two bubbles sit at its edge surrounded by white foam. I like how the contrasting colours are broken up by the darker shades making an abstract and artistic looking photo of the kind I think would look quite effective framed and hung on a wall. Gave this a 9. |

Zen Masterby dsa157Comment: I keep coming back to this. I like the photo, the lighting, the subject and the mood of intensity that it portrays to me. Bumping 9 to 10. |

A Little Bubble Eyedby olddjComment: Darn, I spent ages commenting on this and then got logged out - but will try to rewrite: I like the image and think it fits the challenge. The title is good and those eyes do look like bubbles. If this photo were mine I would try to capture so that the eyes were placed less closely to the frame and more to the left, so that they featured more as a point of focus - at the moment the wings seem to be the focus of attention. The surface that the insect sits on appears to slope and might benefit from levelling up in the photo manipulation software you use. I like the background which doesn't detract from the insect. I've scored this a 4, but feel that this particular image could be improved with a few careful manipulations which would turn it into a 'wow' photo. Best of luck with this in the challenge. |

Bubbles In Blueby dcbuieComment: I'm looking closely at the photo but, unfortunately, can't make out any bubbles. The photo is smaller than it should be and appears to be out of focus. There are some interesting light reflections on the glass and the top of the glass looks like it might have an etched pattern on it, but isn't clear because of the focus issue. It reminds me a bit of my own first challenge attempt. I think there'll be some intruction in the forums, somewhere, about image sizing for upload to the challenges, if not in the rules. Hoping this won't fare 'too' badly for you. It's great fun learning and the challenges are great incentives, I think - hoping you agree. |

Enveloped In Darknessby crikComment: Beautiful. Pure and simple. One little candle with so much black space around it really seems to emphasise the 'darkness', even though the eye becomes drawn toward the flame of the candle. Your photo, I think, meets the challenge well and works for me on both an artistic and emotional level. I'm still learning about the technical side of photography, so I don't feel able to comment on ways you might improve on that, but the image looks clear - in focus - and I like the composition. Giving this a 10. |

Technologyby RulerZigzagComment: I like this. It meets the challenge - good old Darth Vader, symbolic of the "dark side" - and the photo is interesting. However, I would have scored it higher without the red border and more 'blackness/contrast' to the background. Best of luck with it though, it's a great image. 7 from me. |

Frostyby vtruanComment: THE FROST
The gnawing, clawing frost
Clings to my window pane
Its feather fingers lost
For warmth they cannot gain
They stretch and creep and crack
And trace in their cold flow
An icy patterned track
Of tendrils bent in woe.
Like a fern plant growing
With crystal leaves spread out
The frondy curls not knowing
Their destiny or route
Crispy, white and fragile
Tips breaking with the strain
In final death-throws agile
Frost marks its flowery stain.
Diana (1997)
I hope you don't mind. Your photo reminded me of this poem I once wrote - and thought I would add it to your photo. The photo must have been quite difficult to take, but you seem to have captured the feathery fronds very well. Well done. Best of luck in the voting - I can definitely see the hidden face :-) |

Mephisto's Crossingby OlyuziComment: Thank you for sharing this image with me on the 'mist' thread. I really love the photo. The title fits well and tells a meaningful story to the image. (Going to see if I can find anything about "Mephisto" now!) |
