Skating at The Squareby StrikeslipComment: This shutter speed doesn't really work for me. I'd prefer either a much longer or much slower exposition (with the proper compensation of course). It's also a bit underexposed for my taste. What I really like is the theme itself. |

January Sales Circa 2006by kevrobertsonComment: I was looking for a long time for an image that fits the challenge. (This is how I used to start voting usually.) Now, after looking at many shots, I found it, and I found a good quality one. Yes, this is really about city life in theme, composition, color, feeling. Unfortunately it's so hard for me to read the banner, but that's all I don't like about this shot. Grats. |

After Schoolby GermaineComment: Like a dream. I love the softness on it. And of course the shadows. Good work! |

Check-eredby shaverComment: The reflection on the board itself is a bit distracting and maybe sharper focus could have helped, but it's a very good setup. |

Strawby halcyonComment: Simplicity is great sometimes. Seeing a basket, aiming straight at it, using flash as light source and pressing the button is a good start. But then, one should think like "ok I have the shot, how can I improve it?" Try getting rid of direct light, change the field (and maybe depth) of view, postprocess your shot to emphasize the speciality of the selected pattern, do anything to grab the attention of the viewer. Oh, and the common word: it's small. You have the size limit of an old monitor and the filesize limit not much less than the total memory of an old video card, so use it. |

Swirlby jurassicComment: Clever double usage of harmonic division (~0.618 : 1) -- once at placement of center of cactus and once again if you count the spiral arms (13 to the right and 21 to the left which gives ~0.619 : 1). |
