I don't mind the cropping on this one. It's busy, but it still feels like there's a little bit of room to breath. It feels random, but at the same time deliberate. "real" if you will. With that said. the lighting feels a bit harsh. The subtle white on white is lost in the glare of the light source. I like the audio plug on the left, it helps to tell a story, but the plug on the right seems out of place, like both ends of the line came out when it "fell." The color cast on the batteries seems a bit strange. the copper is really red, I'm not sure why that is.

Hammering

Comment:
Other than a hammer, I'm not really sure what it is I'm looking at. The in-focus part (hammer +red cloth?) don't seem to give much clues. Because the red is in the center of the frame, and such a strong color (partially because its red, and partially because its not used much in the photo anywhere else) it steals the importance away from the rest of the image. It's a very busy image, and my eye doesn't really know where to go once it sees red in-focus area.

Yashica Minister III Repair: Part One

The first thing that struck me about this was the cropping difference between the top and bottom, and the left and right sides. It feels a bit dim, and the hard shadows casting on other objects probably doesn't help.

In some of the other mass- disassembled shots, it seems like there are a lot more unique parts. This camera has so many round components, I wonder if there's a way to exploit that and create a more unique "grid" of parts.

Cheating the Cube

Good technical shot. Wouldn't surprise me if this was a ribbon contender. The color reflections in the shadows are nice, the exposure is spot on, and the DOF and hierarchy both creating an interesting focal point to rest on.

The little quirks, like the cube being ever-so-slightly rotated at points only add to the authenticity.

It works well for this challenge.

The first thing I noticed in this is how strongly colored the light source is. I think this could use a little more white balance, even if you do still want to keep it warm toned. The DOF for me is a bit strange, it kind of took me a while to find the area of the photograph that's in focus. I kept expecting it to be the egg on the left. With that said, I think if you positioned some things farther back to accentuate the Yolk it would be helpful. (this would be in reference to the egg crate, mustard and mayo). In this regard, everything seems to be in the same plane of vision, almost a horizontal line, and that also seems to assist in making the hierarchy a little difficult to establish.

Pondered this one for like 5 minutes, just trying to interpret it, and understand its relationship in the challenge. At first I was hesitant- It felt like it was the entire lamp with just a blacked out rod, but I see now that isn't the case. Here's what I like and dislike about this photo:

like: good optical illusion, good exposure, not flat feeling, creative.

like less:feels heavily cropped at the top, and excessively spacious on the sides. I don't care much for the blue bulb combined with the warm lamp base and shade. I'm not sold on the weird sparklies (that's the correct term, right?) that are being illuminated. It gives it a fairy tale, or illustrative feeling, and the rest of the image doesn't quite convey that same mood.

The way these are positioned vertically reminds me of makeup photography, specifically mascara.

Overall, it feels a bit oddly composed, mainly due to the ink canister in the center. It causes everything to be so spread out from each other, and following the leading line it gives shoots you off into space. I think I'd like to see this bumped up a bit in exposure, on my screen the blacks tend to recede into nothingness.

Woah, Cooties on Crack. Especially that googly eyed one in the back.

cropping is tight, I don't mind that. I wish there was a bit more focus in the foreground. The glowing lime green in the back draws my eye off everything very quickly.

On black these things seem kinda creepy/not fun. I think another color that played off the playfulness and still isolates the object would have been better.

This would have more expression without the two "cheek" pieces. I think I would have placed them on the "eyes" as pupils. With the expression of the eyebrow how it is, it would have given the impression of a wink.

Formally, I think the gradation in the lighting is a bit distracting towards the bottom since the drive itself is also so dark. I think this could benefit from 1 more light source.

Seeing these phones disassembled makes me want to smash them into little bits and pieces, not sure why.

I think this could have been taken further, it seems almost default. I can see this being an awesome shot if you reassembled the phone, and then used a saw to cut it in half lengthwise. As is, the composition isn't doing much, it's kind of hard to see any real detail. The depth of field makes you focus more on the granite texture more so than the phone components.
