Bar Harbor at Dawnby mattsComment: Sorry for the comment yesterday, I had a bad day and lashed out at everyone. I like your image, nice use of color, good composition DOF and all that. Would like to see more dramatic clouds but that's not in your control. However just because it's a nice picture does not make it a still life. It would go nicely under a lighting, sunset, water, or even a landscape challenge but it's not a still life. |

Mercury Risingby catzilla23Comment: Sorry about the comment yesterday, bad day. Your image does meet many of the qualifications for still life. It does need cropped, I would take it right up to the statue, which is over exposed and blown out. Horizon lines don't always have to be level but I think it would help in this case. I will re-rate it. |

Still life at the waterfrontby ScantyNebulaComment: Sorry about the comment yesterday, really bad day and I took it out on a bunch of people. I agree that your image is of inanimate objects, I did realize that they were bronze. I guess my major problem with it is the background, it's very distracting, still lifes almost always have a very plain patterned or neutral background as to not distract from the object of interest, but I guess not everyone has access to a studio so I won't count that against you. Not to be offensive but it appears a snapshot that was taken with a disposable camera. A much shallower DOF would have helped this image greatly. Exposure problems include blocking up under the throat and burnt out on the snout. I will conceed that this could be construed as a still life and will re-rate it as such. |

Lamp Posts in Fogby DiamondPeteComment: Sorry for what I said yesterday, I had a bad day and took it out on alot of people. I think your image would be better suited for a weather, lighting, or maybe even a shadows challenge but in my opinion just because it's an object and still doesn't make it a still life. You have nice composition and DOF, I would like to see a little more light on the first one, or maybe if all of them were on, but regardless I don't think it belongs in a still life competition.

Peachesby richsamsComment: Sorry for the comment yesterday, bad day.. Technical aspects of your picture are alright. lighting is pretty good. composition is alright however I would like to see something on the left, maybe the cat could be looking at something instead of starring off into space. focus need some help it's focused in front of the cat, would be better if it was on the eyes themselves. Other than that it is still not a still life, I know this is a controversial subject here right now but in my opinion just because life is still does not make it a still life in the classical sense which is what the assignment was. |

Sweeping it clean.by doginroomComment: Sorry for my comment yesterday, it was a very bad day and I kind of took it out on everyone. Your image.... interesting idea for still life but isn't sweeping a motion? The curled up broom bristles definitly imply motion to me at least. I think you would have beed better off laying it down on it's side on a pile of leaves or something like that, I would be more willing to call something of that nature a still life. DOF also needs work, very few photos are effective with the blur in the forground unless it is very strong, and even then it works better in the background to imply depth, it's a visual thing. |

Standing Stillby CorwynComment: Sorry for the comment yesterday, rack it up to a very bad day. This is a very nice image, good macro work. The background could be a little darker, if you hold something above to cast a shadow behind, and that would make it a stronger image. However as nice as a macro shot as it is, I don't feel that it meets the topic for still life. I know this is a controversial subject here right now, but that is my opinion. |
