Face Off: Harvard vs. Cornellby RiderGalComment: Andrew Critique Club A wonderful photo. Sports photos are murder to get because you need the snap focus and speed and anticipation to capture the moment—and that is what sports is all about—the moment. The composition of the shot is excellent—the circle of tension between the two players facing off and the object of the game suspended in the middle until it gets hit—what a moment! All the attention of the players is concentrated on that tiny object and it shows. The exposure is great—it is so easy to underexpose the players because of the bright white ice. But the details are there even in the dark parts of the uniform. The focus is crisp with only the movement of the sticks blurring—this adds to the motion of the shot I like the way you only see the side view of the faces covered in their masks—very powerful. Your processing looks correct and no sign of digital nasties. All in all a great action shot—well done! |

Voters Fund Nature Preserve, Reject Developmentby jimmspComment: The great problem with this photo is the lack of a focal point for the viewer to focus on. Ones eyes seem to just slide off the photo. I don’t know the area but if one of those trees at such interesting angles were used as a focal point—if you had managed to get closer to them and used them in your composition as a prominent feature this photo might have worked better or perhaps the photo taken from low down in the grass on the opposite bank. Your picture is well exposed with good focus and DOF for a scenic shot. Nice reflections on the water. As you have explained you had a problem with the horizon –it does distract from your shot. Your processing is good and your camera shows good detail . The title sparks the imagination—and this looks like a great conservation area Andrewm Critique Club |
