Comment by CNovack:
Very lovely composition - great leading lines on the river bend that leads the eye to the mountain's majesty. One tiny suggestion is that the tones seem a tad flat - a boost in the contrast would add more dynamic dimension between the light and shadow.

I think, here some kind of HDR trick would have made those very impressive roots bear bigger weight visually.

Love the tree - but the light seems to want to force me to look at the lightened hill, instead. I would have liked a little more fill light - even in post processing.

Wow, fabulous shot and wonderfully composed! Love the way the light falls upon the far canyon wall that it almost looks like an island in the distance. The unique tree adds visual interest and the top half really pops dramatically off of the skyscape. My only critique is while the tones are dramatic in the top half of the photo, the bottom half of the composition is flat. Understandably, it is because that half falls into shadow. Perhaps use of brightness/contrast and shadow/highlight/midtones would make that area pop more but you might just want to select the bottom half of the photo, feather to avoid hard edges, and then apply those tools.

this is very lovely...I wonder if you could have pushed the colors before converting it to make it deeper richer tones

Looks a bit contrast lacking at the front here but great composition.
