April Showers, bring May Flowers...by ericwoodfordComment by karmat: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

COMPOSITION
I like the elements you have chosen to work with here. There is just something special about children and flowers. I think, compositionally, though, it may have worked better if you had tried one of a couple of different things. First, you could have tried a portrait/vertical framing. This would have prevented the top of her little head being chopped off, and it would have allowed more of her arms and hands to show. If you really wanted it horizontal, then I would recommend moving the frame so that the child is more on the left, and more flowers on the right were showing.
TECHNIQUE
The focus works okay here. Her arms do seem a bit soft, but it is also interesting how the flowers on the right are focused, adn those on the left are not. I love the concentration on her face; you have captured a priceless memory here.
OVERALL EFFECT
Though I understand the connection to the challenge here, some may have found it a bit of a stretch. Perhaps a lower camera angle to capture some blue sky or something would have made a difference. I think you have done well. Best to you in future challenges.

April Showers, bring May Flowers...by ericwoodfordComment by margem: for some reason it really bothers that the baby's head was cropped and maybe if the shot were vertical.or just a bit more pulled back. You caught a nice feeling of .the " does love me or not " thing and who wouldn't love the little cutey |

April Showers, bring May Flowers...by ericwoodfordComment by kiwiness: Ah little cutey! Good pic, perhaps if the child hadn't been so centered, rather set more to the left or right this would have more impact. Also a little sharpening in the postprocessing would have gotten rid of the soft feeling of this image. |

Hidden in plain sightby ericwoodfordComment by Azrifel: Needs softer light, take the photo early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The softer light at those times of day can avoid highlight blowouts like in the upper right and provides more contrast. The chromatic abberation/purplefringing & clipping effect would be a lot less as well. |

No Escapeby ericwoodfordComment by kiwiness: I find it very despairing seeing animals locked up in a zoo! If only you had gone a little higher to see the despair on that tiger/lion's eyes... The post on the left you could have cropped out a little more as well. But otherwise a good photo, good luck. |
