Faded Memoriesby Gracechild7Comment by jmsetzler: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Gracechild...
Your photo works nicely for the 'time' challenge. The composition is strong and I really like the theme you are relating with this photo.
I don't know much about the camera you have, but this photo, as mentioned in earlier comments, would be much stronger if it was larger. I also think that the overexposure on this photo could be a bit damaging overall as well. Personally, I think a darker exposure would somewhat enhance the theme you are working with in this image...
Keep up the good work :)
John Setzler

Faded Memoriesby Gracechild7Comment by dsidwell: This fine image would be even better if it were larger. Your lighting and composition are great. If you use Photoshop, you can go to your Image Size... window and adjust the dpi. The max for use here is 640 for your longest edges. You can then use the "Save for Web..." window and fiddle there until you have a jpg image that is under 150 kb. Good luck. |

Magenta Feelings in a Savage Gardenby Gracechild7Comment by Olyuzi: I find the big green, and out of focus leaf in the front of the magenta flower to be very distracting. I would have prefered if it had been pulled out of the way or you had taken a different shooting angle to compose this picture otherwise. The lighting is too flat so that you can barely make out the stamen of the flower. If possible, a shooting angle that would have taken advantage of side lighting would have helped give a more 3D look. |

Magenta Feelings in a Savage Gardenby Gracechild7Comment by PTLParsons: To me you have your dof reversed. The flower, subject, is in the background, nicely focused, behind an out of focus leaf. BUT with your title, that is obviously intentional. Not sure how I feel about that or how it will go over. I have very mixed feelings about this. I'll give your credit for coloring outside the lines. And you did it very well. Just not sure personally, how I feel. It's not really appealling but there is something about it that holds your attention. I believe you have accomplished what you intended. For that you deserve a 10. For the photo itself I think, as is and as a photok, it deserves a 5. Together they get you a 7.5 |

We Wear the Mask that Grins and Liesby Gracechild7Comment by GinaRothfels: This was judged very harshly for not fitting the challenge and for its post-processing. The processing really appeals to me, but I tend to restrict this kind of thing to my personal photos because I know how people vote here. Don't be discouraged by this score - a lot of people scored you much higher. |

I think I shall wear blue todayby Gracechild7Comment by derekleung: Your concept is nice. However, it lacks a spark somewhere. I would have prefered that the "eye brush" were also vertical but leaning slightly away from the other brushes, then vertically crop the shot for more eye impact. Your background distracts the viewer completely. Try a complete white or black background in order to isolate the subject that you intend to show. 6 |
