The temptation when viewing images like this is to evaluate it as a "cute" image rather than with a critical eye. In this case, it works both ways - it is both cute and a complete technical success at the same time. That also applies to it's artistic success - a free form image properly composed and captured demonstrating mastery of light and framing. While probably not to everyone's taste, it is very effective and absoutely not a snapshot, but a pure portrait quality image. Very well done.
