Leaves of grassby lwkimagesComment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy):
Positives: What an interesting scene - certainly one worth capturing. The limited colour palette makes for an effective image as does the composition - particularly the position of the 'window' in the frame. The longer I look at the image, the more of the detail I notice. The cracks in the stone work for example are captured with great clarity.
Critical stuff: I think the lighting is perhaps a little flat but it is difficult to see what you could do about that without something like Viveza. However, this flat lighting does conspire with a somewhat flat composition (due to your roughly orthogonal orientation to the wall) to limit the amount of depth that is perceived in the image.
Overall: an interesting subject, well, if somewhat plainly captured. |

Where is my world?by lwkimagesComment by Teafran: A very intriguing abstract image - a good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed using the medium of reflection - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal because of it's abstract nature. However it affects this reviewer as the perfect abstract - a good eye for effective detail from the on the edge blue at the top to the cupola distortions, this is a simply brilliant image and could be considered a top flight homage to Lester Hayes. While it may not place well because of it's unique nature, in this reviewer's opinion, it should win a blue ribbon because of it's unique and out of the ordinary viewpoint by comparison to other images in this challenge. A very welcome and uncommon image. Well done. |

Reflecting on my cityby lwkimagesComment by fotofan: Amazing shot, gave you a 10 during voting but didn't have time to comment. Really wish this would have done better. It's great to see more unique art in the free studies. |
